Gestalt on Grid

The gestalt principle of continuation is the tendency of the human eye to follow a continuous path be it lines, curves, or intersections until it encounters another path or intersection. For example in the fifth illustration, It shows a continuity of four squares in each 4 rows that keep moving down so that it can still continue further below.

The gestalt principle of similarity says that elements that are similar are perceived to be more related than elements that are dissimilar. Similarity helps us organize objects by their relatedness to other objects within a group and can be affected by the attributes of color, size, shape and orientation. For example in the 3rd diagram, it shows a split in between the words in the middle.

Closure  is the illusion of seeing an incomplete stimulus as though it were whole. Thus, one unconsciously tends to complete a triangle or a square that has a gap in one of its sides. For example in the 4th illustration, it shows a letter T that has spaces in the sides. This explains how incomplete the grid is at the moment.

Figure–ground organization is a type of perceptual grouping that is a vital necessity for recognizing objects through vision. In Gestalt psychology it is known as identifying a figure from the background. For example in the first diagram, it shows a cross that the figure shows in order for the grid to look real.

The Law of Proximity is the gestalt grouping law that states elements that are close together tend to be perceived as a unified group. This straightforward law states that items close to each other tend to be grouped together, whereas items further apart are less likely to be grouped together. For example in the second illustration, it shows squares being close to eachother to explain the grid as proximity, showing that they leave space to eachother.

  2. I like how originized this is. I also like how this person added the outlines so the grid does not look like it goes on forever, if there was no outline it would look like the grid size is never ending. I like how each grid is thrirly explained in detail, i can see that this person put their heart and soul into making all these grids and writing about it. I like how all the grids are different, all of them have different ideas but it fits in the gsalt category. I dont like how they put the name and explantion in the bottom, if a begenier was reading this they would be confused about which grid is which since other then that its good. Over all all the grids and explantion combined i would give this a 6/10 overall.

  3. The third design is really cool and it shows how you took time in creating it. If I'm not wrong is seems like it's proximity.

  4. First of all I am gonna say that my favorite one is the third one because its really creative how the designer chose different numbers of letters and scrambled into making an example similarity. I would like to say that to improve on the last one which is continuity because it looks like a plain page of a book, so if she added some sort of little bit more like a strong sign of continuity like an arrow showing the flow of texts, it would be nicer. Overall looking at all of those images, I would rate like a solid 9 out of 10 because it shows creativity, neat and clean designs overall and also by reading the reflections I can see there are some artistic informations applied on the reflection.

By the way one fun fact is that, the first one looks exactly like mine but idk how it happened lol.

  5. My least favorite is proximity because it looks like he just filled in the boxes and quit. My most favorite is closure because it looks cool and like a encrypted text. He wrote a lot so it's good. 9/10
